English

Overview

Our aim in the English Faculty is to enable our students to enjoy and be excited by their English lessons. Teachers cultivate an environment in lessons which supports each student’s cultural, aesthetic, creative and intellectual development.  In all years students are enabled to develop their abilities to communicate accurately and effectively in speech and writing.  Our students are encouraged to understand and respond imaginatively to what they hear, read and experience in a variety of media. In order to promote independent skills in English students are supported by resources and information on the school’s network sites.

The English Faculty has a significant input in raising the importance of language and learning across the curriculum and the value of reading is promoted throughout the school.

Media Studies, Film Studies, Theatre Studies and Drama are also taught within the English Faculty.  All are extremely popular subjects and together with English provide a variety of creative opportunities for students beyond the timetabled curriculum.
