Geography

Year 9

Geography is taught to all groups in Year 9.  Students study a range of themes drawn from the fields of Physical, Human and Environmental Geography using topical case studies as appropriate.  Students use a variety of resources to supplement the usual range of ICT and video material.

Year 10 & 11

Students who opt for Geography at GCSE will follow one of two courses.  AQA A and B both offer a variety of Geographical themes, both Human and Physical as well as the opportunity to undertake fieldwork which contributes towards the coursework component of the course.  Syllabus A is examined at the end of Years 10 and 11 whilst Syllabus is examined more frequently.

Year 12 & 13

Geography is a popular course with students studying either Humanities/Arts-based subjects and those with a more Science/Mathematics background given the diverse nature of the subject ranging through topical issues such as population, health and globalisation to the more traditional areas of study in physical geography.  Students are expected to read around the subject to keep abreast of topical events.  Students undertake fieldwork as part of their studies.
