Overview The Mathematics Faculty offers the OCR modular course. It consists of 10 modules starting from M1 going up to M10 – students need to do three of these. The modules are linked to GCSE grades, so the modules you do will depend on your target GCSE grade. For example, M5 targets E/F, m7 targets C/D. The best two modules count for 50% of the GCSE. The terminal exam is done at the end of the course and accounts for the remainder of the GCSE grade. There is no coursework for GCSE Maths. All Maths lessons follow a standard routine – starter, main activity and plenary. Main activities range from routine practice and consolidation, problem solving, games and practical work. Although calculators are widely used, time is spent developing mental and pencil and paper methods. Computers are used extensively as a teaching and learning aid
