Pastoral Care

Overview

The School Pastoral System

Each Year group is overseen by a Head of Year and an Assistant Head of Year who work with a team of 13 tutors who have responsibility for offering support and guidance to around twenty five students in their tutor group. During the first three years at South Bromsgrove your son or daughter will remain with the same tutor. This means that you will get to know your son or daughters tutor well and will feel confident about contacting them.

The tutor and pastoral team are responsible for the all round development of your child and will monitor and support them socially and academically. As students progress through the years the tutor will help them with necessary guidance on tests, examinations, revision, options, careers, work experience extra curricular activities, records of achievement and post 16 opportunities.

The school also has a school councillor who plays an active part in all areas of school life and who will confidentially support students at their request.

Personal and Social Education and Citizenship Tutors meet with students on a daily basis and during this time students will participate in year assemblies and a variety of activities linked to the social and academic progress of your child.

It is a fundamental belief in the school that the personal , social and citizenship education of your son and daughter takes place throughout all subjects , through enrichment to the curriculum and during extra curricular activities such as sport , drama , music and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

Students will build up their own citizenship and achievement record throughout their time at the school and this will support them in securing further education and work placements.
