Train to Teach

Do you want to train in an outstanding school?

South Bromsgrove High is a fantastic place to train and learn to become an outstanding teacher either on the School Direct or PGCE programme

We provide a school based learning opportunity in partnership with The University of Worcester and Haybridge Alliance Scitt, both excellent training providers.

The main Secondary teaching placements are held at either South Bromsgrove High, judged as Outstanding in all four areas in November 2012 or Trinity High School, Redditch, judged as Good by Ofsted in 2015.

Generous bursaries are available for some shortage subjects. Visit www.getintoteaching.education.gov.uk for further details.

The Primary Course is led by St Johns Middle School in partnership with The University of Worcester. Placements are in one of our excellent First or Middle Schools in the Redditch and Bromsgrove area.

South Bromsgrove is the lead school within the alliance and the professional studies element of the course is coordinated here for Secondary and at St Johns Church of England Middle School and The University for Primary.

About the School

South Bromsgrove High is the lead school within the alliance and the professional studies element of the course will be co-ordinated here. Consistently oversubscribed, South is an excellent school where students enjoy learning in a way which stimulates their imagination and creativity. We maintain high standards of achievement, offer a broad and relevant curriculum, and place great emphasis on a high quality of experience in lessons.

Ofsted recognised the outstanding nature of all aspects of school life demonstrated through their comments;

"Consistently high-quality teaching promotes excellent progress across the school. The variety and pace of activities are often breath taking, keeping all students fully engaged. Students' attitudes to school are exemplary. Behaviour is calm, mature and considerate. Warm relationships contribute to the exceptionally positive climate for learning both in and out of lessons. Parents and carers, staff and students are universally positive about behaviour. The arts have a very high status in the school."

Three choirs, each of over 200 students, compete in the annual school 'Eisteddfod' competition. The extensive Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme involves over half of the staff (including all senior staff) and nearly half the students in the three levels of accreditation. It brings numerous benefits in terms of students' confidence, physical development and positive relationships, as well as improving staff bonding and morale.  For more information about South Bromsgrve High, visit the school website here.

Above all, the partner schools in the South Bromsgrove High teacher training courses are committed to the all-round development of individuals who will be valuable members of any community.

If you want to discuss training to teach either on the School Direct or PGCE route, contact Andrea Taylor tr@southbromsgrove.worcs.sch.uk who will be happy to talk through your options.
