Did I get the job?
Friday 18th October saw the school gym taken over as interview space for practice interviews for all 330 of our Year 11 students. A lot of them had put a lot of effort into preparing a professional CV for day and there were some nerves on show for students who were being interviewed by a stranger for the first time.
Feedback from the interviewers about the quality of our students was very positive but, more importantly, the students got individual feedback about their performance. There was a tangible buzz coming off the students after they had had their interviews, clearly walking a lot taller and more confidently after doing so well. This will stand them in good stead for the future when they are being interviewed for Sixth Form, college, apprenticeships or jobs.
The day had been set up by Mr Steve Clark (Careers Lead) and Mrs Nicki Robinson (Careers Officer) with the help and support of interviewers from local businesses, enterprises, colleges and other volunteers. Some students were even interviewed by the partners of current staff, though we didn’t let on who they were to the students!
Mr Clark said afterwards, “We’re really grateful for the support from all the interviewers enabling us to give this fantastic opportunity to our students. They will all benefit from it tremendously and they have done themselves proud.”
