Careers Talks go online
Still working for the future of the Students despite the current restrictions South Bromsgrove High School invited a wide range of visitors in from industry and enterprise to talk to the year 9 students. The “visitors” were in fact online but the technology meant they were able to tell the students about their own career paths and then allow the students to ask questions.
Roles and industries represented included NHS, Border Force, Building Surveying, Engineering, Early Years, Project Management, Actuaries and Communications Specialists.
Nicki Robinson, the school’s Careers Officer, who had organised the event said, “It’s so important to widen the students’ horizons and give them some role models beyond their own teachers or adults in their family networks. We invited speakers from a wide range of different careers, with a variety of different backgrounds, we also tried in particular to invite people to talk to the students that challenged usual stereotypes”
The students responded with lots of questions and many found it a valuable experience.
