KS5 Guidance interviews: all students will be offered the opportunity for one-to-one guidance with the Careers Officer. They can either self-refer or be referred by any of the pastoral staff.

Futures Day: Off-timetable opportunities to meet with former students who have taken various different vocational pathways as well as receiving information and advice about apprenticeships and university pathways

Skills Show: Selected students will have the opportunity to attend the UK’s leading skills and career event for young people held at the NEC. The event provides students with hands-on experiences that inspire them about the world of work and allows them to meet a wide range of leading employers and training organisations

Y12 Job Shadowing: Students will have a placement of one or two weeks in the summer term with support from the Sixth Form Student Services Officer to acquire placements

Post-18 research with Unifrog: all students will have access to an online search tool for use with finding suitable HE or apprenticeship opportunities

Y12 HE conference in school: launch to Y12 of the research and application process

Careers Fayre: All students have the opportunity to attend the Careers Fayre held on AR day to improve their awareness of local organisations that offer educational, apprenticeships, or other training pathways.

Apprenticeship show: a visit arranged for students to meet employers and gather information about opportunities.

Y12 UCAS conference: a visit to a UCAS conference at a local university (Worcester, Birmingham etc.) will be arranged for students to gather information about HE options

Relevant work experience for vocational courses

  • Pearson Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Engineering/Unit 9: Work Experience in the Engineering Sector/10 day work experience placement
  • Pearson Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care/Unit 6: Work Experience in Health and Social Care/ placement of at least 100 hours

 

Throughout the year

Y12 Extracurricular opportunities: The school will support and run the Young Enterprise Award scheme and the Engineering Education Scheme. These well-established and respected ventures provide excellent real-world experience for the selected students.

Oct - May

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme:

Participation is offered in year 12 & 13 with the capacity to cater for around 80 students to complete the Gold Award. This is open to students who have not previously done Bronze or Silver via the Direct Gold route. The four sections of the award allows students to develop their skills, service to the community, fitness and independence through the expedition. An additional requirement at Gold is to complete a week’s residential.

Training after school starts Mon 24 Sep for Y13, Mon 21 Jan for Y12.
