The Interview Process
We normally require two references, of which one will be an academic reference for all applicants. For those applicants who finished their academic courses more than 5 years ago, we realise that this may not be the most appropriate. In such cases, employers or teachers from the school(s) visited whilst gaining school experience are requested to comment on suitability for the teaching profession.
The School Direct Programme is an intensive year, demanding full time commitment. Tutors and mentors are committed to providing generous support for trainees in meeting these demands, provided trainee teachers are totally committed.
The selection process is rigorous and thorough and designed to help us decide whether we believe you should train with us, and to help you decide if teaching is the right career for you.
The programme for the selection process includes a collaborative approach between the Universities and the schools working in partnership. It will involve an interview at the school and possibly the University.
The School interview will include:-
- Tour of School
- Meeting pupils and staff
- Leading a Lesson
- Individual interview
The University of Worcester interview will include:-
- Introduction to the course
- Group discussion of general issues in education and what it means to be a teacher
- Subject specific presentations by applicants
- Meet subject tutors as a subject group followed by individual interviews
Primary interviews will take place at St Johns Middle School, jointly with the University of Worcester.
How to Apply
We work in partnership with The University of Worcester and Haybridge Alliance SCITT on our School Direct placements. To apply for a place you will need to register via the UCAS Teacher Training website.
All applications are managed and reviewed by South Bromsgrove High Teaching School and the relevant Higher Education Institution (HEI) to ensure that the programme criteria has been met.
