Grade C at GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics (and Science for Primary) is essential for all applicants. The University organises alternative examinations for candidates without these qualifications.
All successful candidates are strongly recommended to undertake some school experience prior to starting the course. Experience of working with young people in an educational setting would be an advantage. This does not need to be paid work and can be in a voluntary capacity. What We Are Looking For
To get the most out of this course, you will need to be enthusiastic about working with children, and possess an ability to relate to them. On the course, you will be encouraged to develop good working relationships with teachers and their pupils. The School Direct programmes, whilst a training programme, provides a sustained school experience throughout the school year and the opportunity to be fully immersed in the school community.
