What will I pay?
For a School Direct and PGCE placement you will need to pay tuition fees of £9000 to the University of your choice. If you are from the United Kingdom you can apply for a student loan and a means tested maintenance grant and a maintenance loan. To encourage the best graduates to enter the profession, financial incentives are offered to trainees intending to train to teach in certain subjects. Funding amounts will vary depending on the subject you intend to teach and your degree classification or highest relevant academic qualification. Scholarships of £25,000 are available in maths, physics, chemistry and computing for trainees who are starting their training in the 2015/16 academic year. These prestigious awards are aimed at high-quality graduates with a 2:1 or first-class degree, who are passionate about their subject and have the potential to be inspirational teachers.
The scholarship will be instead of the standard bursary, but trainees who are not awarded the scholarship will still be eligible for the standard bursaries. Click here for further information.
Subject Knowledge Enchancement
If you do not have a degree in the subject you wish to teach, free courses are available to increase your subject knowledge prior to teacher training and funding maybe available. For details visit the ‘Get Into Teaching’ website here.
